April 04, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

FuelCell Energy (Danbury, CT) unveiled its new manufacturing facility in Torrington, CT by welcoming Connecticut Governor John G. Rowland as he hit the switch to start the production line for the company's Direct FuelCell. The governor also announced the State of Connecticut's intention to purchase a 250kW Direct FuelCell power plant through the state's Clean Energy Fund. The site of this new power plant has yet to be determined.

The new 65,000-square foot facility will allow for the expansion of manufacturing capacity of power plants to 50MW annually by the end of this year. FuelCell Energy claims that it has the potential to expand to an annual production capacity of more than 400MW by 2004.

“FuelCell Energy is a leader in developing and producing the cutting-edge energy technologies and products that will help to power our state's, our nation's, and the world's economies," stated Governor Rowland.
