June 26, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

PennWell Corp. (Tulsa, OK) is presenting the first annual Fuel Cell Technology Institute in conjunction with the National Fuel Cell Research Center (NFCRC, Irvine, CA). The event will be held at the Hyatt Hotel in Irvine, CA, from July 16 - 17, 2001.

Designed to facilitate continued progress in the development of fuel cells, the institute will present detailed instruction and interactive workshops. Discussions on the challenges and opportunities facing the fuel cell market, in addition to topics covering recent advancements, research, development and demonstration issues will be included.

Presentations will be given on fuel cell fundamentals and fuel cell systems; the fuel cell market, supply demand and commercialization; and fuel cell deployment and integration technologies. Workshop sessions will be presented by leaders in the energy industry, including professionals from NFCRC, the Department of Energy, the US Department of Defense, Siemens Westinghouse, Concurrent Technologies Group and Spencer Management.

The Fuel Cell Technology Institute will also include a technical tour of a local hotel that is powered by a 200kW phosphoric-acid fuel cell, with waste-heat recovery for preheating the hot water supply of the facility. The tour will include a discussion on the installation procedure and the challenges involved in utilizing the system.
