October 29, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

FPL Energy LLC (Juno Beach, FL) announced that it will be constructing the third-largest wind farm in the US next year. The 204MW New Mexico Wind Energy Center will be built, owned and operated by the subsidiary of FPL Group Inc. (Juno Beach, FL), and will sell the output to Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) under a 25-year contract.

The $200.0 million facility will have 136 turbines sited near Fort Sumner, 275km from Albuquerque, to generate 600,000MWh/A, or eight percent of PNM's total capacity. The 1.5MW turbines will be manufactured by General Electric Co. (Fairfield, CT).
