Fairchild Semiconductor Announces New Line of PowerTrench MOSFETs

March 05, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Fairchild Semiconductor Corp. (Sunnyvale, CA) recently announced its new line of high-voltage PowerTrench MOSFETs. The new MOSFETs extend the PowerTrench line to include 60V, 80V, 100V, 150V and 200V. The MOSFETs are intended for use in dc/dc converters and the next generation of server and PC power supplies.

According to Fairchild, the MOSFETs are designed to offer the fastest switching speeds of any similarly rated MOSFETs. Fairchild claims the devices achieve 30-percent reduction in Rds(on) and the gate charge is also reduced by as much as 20 percent. The devices are also designed to reduce both the size and number of power components required in the end application.

According to Fairchild, the devices are ideal for 48V input dc/dc modules, such as those used in the telecom market. In addition, the MOSFETs are designed to meet the demands of next-generation PC and server power systems that will require both higher output power and input voltages.

These high-voltage MOSFETs are currently offered in SO-8 and DPAK packages with a variety of Rds(on) ratings. The families are also available in TO-220 and TO-263 packages. The 60V, 80V and 100V families are currently available in production quantities, while the 150V and 200V families are available for sampling. In quantities of 10,000, pricing ranges from $0.55 to $0.99 each, depending on the device.
