Fairchild Presents FAN5236 SMPS Controller

January 07, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Fairchild Semiconductor International (San Jose, CA) presented its new FAN5236 dual synchronous switch-mode power supply controller, which offers a complete solution for bus termination in high-speed memory systems using DDR-I, DDR-II or HSTL interfaces.

In addition to providing a VDDQ core and VTT termination power, a buffered VREF output simplifies the design of large system architectures by allowing users to easily cascade multiple devices. The VTT output of the FAN5236 sources and sinks up to 3A, tracking VDDQ /2 to within ±2 percent. The VREF output follows VTT within ±40mV. The FAN5236 can be programmed to generate outputs over a 900mV to 5.5V range, up to 6A per channel, with independent current limiting and shutdown controls.

Rated for operation over 0 to 70 degrees C, the FAN5236 is available in both 28-lead QSOP and TSSOP packages, and is supplied in either tube or tape-and-reel packing.

The FAN5236QSC and FAN5236MTC are now available and are priced at $1.99 for 1,000 pieces. Delivery is six to eight weeks ARO.
