Fairchild Semiconductor International (South Portland, ME) announced it has begun construction on a new 800,000sq-ft manufacturing and automated warehouse facility in Suzhou, China. The plant will be a state-of-the-art assembly and test facility to manufacture a broad range of logic, discrete and analog products. The new factory will produce products for both the local China market and for export to the rest of Asia, Europe and the Americas.
"Power components are a key business opportunity in China and demand has been strongest for our power analog and power discrete products, especially the low-voltage power MOSFETs in advanced surface-mount packages," said Kirk Pond, president, CEO and chairman of the board of Fairchild Semiconductor. "These components are used in a variety of applications for a wide range of end markets and are found in virtually every electronics-related product in the world, and China is no exception."
