March 06, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Evercel Inc. (Danbury, CT) has begun shipping its Evertroll rechargeable nickel-zinc batteries from the company's manufacturing facility in Newport News, VA. The initial product is being delivered to customers who placed pre-orders through the company's website or through distributors. Evertroll will also be available direct to the consumer through retail catalog suppliers Cabela's and BassPro.

The Evertroll trolling motor battery is a rechargeable battery designed to give fishing enthusiasts longer run-time on the water and a longer battery lifetime. Evercel began manufacturing preparation to produce the battery during the fourth quarter of 2000. The company plans to increase output to a maximum monthly capacity of 8,000 units during the next few months, as required by customer demand.

“We are very proud to begin consumer shipment of the world's first rechargeable nickel-zinc battery manufactured in our one-of-a-kind, high-volume manufacturing facility located in Newport News, VA," said Robert L. Kanode. “Our new Evertroll product and automated process have achieved performance and quality beyond our expectations. Evertroll represents yet another step in the evolution of Evercel's patented nickel-zinc chemistry into the worldwide commercial market."
