Ericsson Power Modules Debuts New PKM-E Modules

February 19, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Ericsson Power Modules (Sweden) announced its new PKM-E quarter-brick converters, which feature an open-frame design with components mounted on one side only for OEM and CEM customers with applications in communications, avionics, industrial and medical equipment.

Particularly useful in industrial applications, the PKM-E modules are available with 24 V inputs. The first two products within the PKM-E family, the PKM2510EPI and PKM4510EPI, are 18 Vin to 36 Vin, 3.3 Vout, and 36 Vin to 75 Vin, 3.3 Vout devices, respectively. Offering a high efficiency of 90 percent at 3.3V out, half-load, the modules feature an industry-standard, quarter-brick footprint and pin out, and are just 8.5 mm high. The converters are assembled using lead-free solder and a PCB with halogen-free, flame-retardant and electro-less nickel immersion gold plating.

The emerging PKM-E family of modules will embrace units with output power ratings up to 50 W, or output currents up to 20 A. Output voltages will be in the range of 1.2 V to 15 V, input voltages will cover 18 V to 36 V for the PKM2000E, and 36 V to 75 V for the PKM4000E. Input-to-output isolation is 1,500 Vdc, and the modules have 7 million hours predicted mean time between failure at 40 °C.

Ericsson Power Modules will be launching additions to the PKM2000E and PKM4000E Series throughout the first half of 2004.
