EPCOS To Increase Production Of Capacitors In Portugal

Siemens Matsushita Components (Munich, Germany), whose legal successor is now EPCOS AG (Germany), will increase production capacity at its two-year old facility in Évora, Portugal for the production of tantalum electrolytic capacitors. EPCOS owns the only two European manufacturing facilities for tantalum chip capacitors; the other plant is in Heidenheim, Germany. Production capacity in Évora has been continually increased since the plant opened in September 1998. EPCOS' annual production capacity exceeds one billion tantalum chip capacitors. By stepping up capacity to more than three billion tantalum capacitors by 2003, EPCOS intends to improve its global ranking in the market. The new production line will go into operation later this year.
