February 04, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Eos Corp. (Camarillo, CA) introduced eight new single-output versions of its V-Series VLT60 and VLT100 open-frame ac/dc switching power systems. The power supplies, intended for use in a variety of electronic products that connect to the Internet, including data networking and telecommunications equipment, are claimed to be the smallest and most efficient devices in their class. The 60W VLT60 power supplies are enclosed in a 2" x 4" x 1" package.

Four single output versions are available: the VLT60-1000 is rated at 5V and 10A; the VLT60-1001 at 12V and 5A; the VLT60-1002 at 15V and 4A; and the VLT60-1003 at 24V and 2.5A. According to Eos, the 60W models weigh 7 ounces. The 100W VLT100 devices are housed in a 3" x 5" x 1" package. Four single output versions are available: the VLT100-1000 is rated at 12V and 7.5A; the VLT100-1001 is 15V and 6.70A; the VLT100-1002 is 24V and 4.20A; and the VLT100-1003 is rated at 48V and 2.10A.

The 100W models weigh under 9 ounces. Both product families convert ac power to dc power at efficiencies greater than 85 percent. All of the units are convection cooled, eliminating the need for an internal cooling fan. The power supplies have an MTBF of up to 300,000 hours and meet worldwide safety standards including FCC and CE Mark criteria. Custom and modified standard versions of the products are available upon request.
