August 08, 2010 by Jeff Shepard

Energy Micro has announced the appointment of Jürgen Hoika as VP Sales for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Based in Munich, Hoika heads up what the company says is a rapidly growing sales team in the region supporting the company’s ARM® Cortex™ M3-based low power EFM32 Gecko microcontroller family.

Hoika joins Energy Micro from Infineon Technologies, where he was Marketing Director for microcontrollers in industrial and multimarket sectors, with responsibility for worldwide product marketing and regional marketing for EMEA. He has previously held senior management positions in marketing, system engineering and program management for semiconductor products for industrial, consumer and Automotive markets within Infineon and Qimonda.

"Energy Micro has fast become recognized as one of the world’s true innovators in ultra low power microcontroller design and I very much look forward to helping customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa apply this new technology to gain significant competitive advantage," commented Hoika.

Energy Micro’s VP Sales & Marketing Andreas Koller said, "We’re very excited that Jürgen is joining the Energy Micro family. His extensive market knowledge and proven customer focus will help boost Energy Micro’s presence in Europe and inspire even more customers to discover how EFM32 Gecko microcontrollers can support whole new generations of energy sensitive products."

The company states that, in benchmark tests, the EFM32 Gecko microcontroller family has proven capable of consuming a quarter of the energy required by other 8, 16 and 32-bit microcontroller solutions. The EFM32 Gecko microcontroller was launched in October 2009 and is now in full production.
