Emerson Expands and Enhances Data Center Cooling Offering

December 05, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Emerson Network Power has added four models of the Liebert DS system and a new condenser system for the Liebert DS that eliminates the performance penalties associated with switching to green refrigerants. The Liebert DS, a precision cooling system used to control temperature, air quality and humidity in controlled environments such as data centers and computer rooms, is the only precision cooling system to use digital scroll compressors to achieve unprecedented reliability, adaptability and efficiency.

The new models extend the Liebert DS product line to include 53 kW, 70 kW, 77 kW and 105 kW downflow units. With the new Liebert ParadenserTM the Liebert DS can be installed using traditional refrigerants and later transitioned to green refrigerants with no loss in capacity. Traditional condenser systems lose as much as 15% of capacity when converting to green refrigerants.

"The day is coming when green refrigerants must be employed in the field" said Ron Spangler, product manager for the Liebert DS. "Many organizations want to standardize on green refrigerants today or they want a simple way to retrofit in the field with minimal performance impact. The new Liebert Paradenser™ will make that conversion possible, while maintaining the serviceability and reliability that our customers expect."

The Liebert DS system also features the award-winning iCOM™ control system that enables increased inter-unit coordination and provides advanced diagnostics and service capabilities. A new blower drive system also significantly reduces maintenance. The system includes a 5-year belt, permanently lubricated 200,000 hour bearings, and an auto-tensioning motor base that eliminates the need for manually tightening the belts.
