Elgar Introduces the CW Series of Programmable AC Power Sources

March 12, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Elgar (San Diego, CA) recently introduced the CW Series of continuous wave programmable ac power sources. The new models will be available in power ratings of 800VA, 1,250VA or 2,500VA. The single-phase output frequency ranges from 45Hz to 500Hz, while the switchable output voltage ranges are 0Vrms to 135Vrms with a maximum current of 9.26ARMS and 0Vrms to 250Vrms with current up to 4.63ARMS.

According to Elgar, the CW Series features flexible operation for a wide range of development, margin testing, manufacturing and OEM applications. Three CW chassis can be configured in the field to deliver three-phase output power. Elgar claims the CW Serie's voltage-sense capability ensures that the precise voltage is delivered to the remote load. These separate sense leads, attached at the load, provide voltage feedback to the CW source.

According to the company, another key feature is the standby enable/reset front panel switch. The switch is designed to allow the user to have the power cables attached to the load while adjusting voltage and current, without power actually being applied to the load. Other safety features include over-voltage shutdown, over-current shutdown or foldback, and over-temperature shutdown. Front panel controls include main power on/off, output power on/off, high/low voltage range (switch) and over-voltage adjustment.

All three models mount in a standard 19" rack. The 800VA and 1,250VA models are 3.5" high (2U), while the 2,500VA is 5.25" high (3U). Pricing starts at $2,495 each for the 800VA model, and both the 800VA and 1,250VA models are currently available.
