Elantec Announces EL7563CRE/EL7564CRE Regulators

December 11, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Elantec Semiconductor Inc. (Milpitas, CA) introduced two new step-down dc/dc regulators with synchronous, integrated power FET transistors in small HTSSOP28 packages.

Elantec's EL7564CRE operates from input voltages of 4.5V to +5.5V and provides regulated output of 1.0V to +3.8V, while the EL7563CRE operates from input voltages of 3.0V to +3.6V, and provides an output of 1.0V to +2.5V. Both devices operate over an ambient temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees C. Other features for both products include multiple supply start-up tracking, integrated current sensing, cycle-by-cycle current limiting, over-temperature shutdown, soft-start, and under-voltage lockout.

The new HTSSOP28 package offers a thermal resistance from junction-to-ambient of better than 30 degrees C per watt, which is 30 percent lower than the original SOL20 package. The improved thermal performance allows these devices to operate at higher continuous current without requiring forced convection cooling.

Richard Powers, Elantec's director of strategic marketing for power products, said, "The EL7563CRE and EL7564CRE extend Elantec's strong leadership position in low-voltage dc/dc regulators. Elantec now offers step-down (buck) regulators rated at continuous currents of 8A, 6A, 4A, 2A and 1A, which satisfy a broad range of system requirements. With Elantec's increasingly broad product line, design engineers can select the regulator that precisely satisfies their application requirements."

Pricing in 1,000-piece quantities for the EL7563CRE or the EL7564CRE is $3.70 each. Both devices are available now with production quantities available within four weeks.
