Eagle-Picher Receives Award from DOD

Eagle-Picher Technologies LLC (Joplin, MO) received the Fiscal 1998 Value Engineering Achievement award from the US Department of Defense (DOD) for their contributions to the "Universal Battery Charger/Analyzer" project for the US Navy. The Universal Battery Charger/Analyzer Team developed universal battery charger/analyzers that support all battery maintenance on virtually all Navy ships. The system was developed using state-of-the-art off the shelf equipment, and is claimed to allow reduced battery maintenance, reduced battery waste products, and improved effectiveness. According to Patricia Sanders, director of Test, Systems Engineering and Evaluation, "The projected yearly savings to the Navy are expected to be $35 million with a 22 to 1 return on investment over a 120-year period.
