DATEL Announces ULE Series Eighth-Brick Converters

February 07, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

DATEL Inc. (Mansfield, MA) announced its ULE Series of isolated, single-output, eighth-brick, dc/dc converters. The ULE (unipolar, low-cost, eighth brick) Series will provide a current/power output of about 10A to 15A/50W at 1.2V to 15V from nominal 12V, 24V or 48V inputs, with operating currents approaching 20A. The first prototypes are running near 90 percent efficiency with 30mV of noise in a 2.28in x 0.78in package.

"Pinout compatibility was most significant to this design," said Bob Leonard, DATEL product-marketing manager. "The approach we took is to be able to drop it into a quarter-brick pinout. The eighth-brick opens the door to many system options. You could take two of these and make a quarter-brick with two isolated outputs, or a quad half-brick with independent control loops."

Pricing for the ULE Series will be around $45 per 1,000-unit quantities.
