Cyber Switching Launches Single Phase Versions of ePower Family of Green Power Distribution Units

May 01, 2011 by Jeff Shepard

Cyber Switching announced the immediate availability of single phase versions of its ePower® intelligent power distribution units (iPDUs). The Power iPDU is a green product featuring what the company says are industry first technologies in the rack-mounted power distribution market. With these newest additions to the ePower family, there are now over 300 PDU configurations available.

According to the company, ePower has been specifically designed with "green" in mind. Exceeding all RoHS-6 environmental standards and using the latest power-saving technologies, ePower is said to help customers "green" their power grid by providing critical metering data and remote management capabilities. With ePower, the company says customers lower operational costs, identify energy reduction opportunities, and even incentivize energy users to manage their own power consumption. For a colocation or enterprise datacenter with several groups of users, real-time power usage can now be tracked and attributed to each individual user, allowing the datacenter to charge customers based on actual usage and aligning user behavior with power reduction benefits.

ePower PDUs support several remote management options, such as HTTP/S, Web Services, SSH, Telnet, Syslog, SMTP, and, most recently, Cisco® EnergyWise. Cisco EnergyWise leverages the network as a platform, simplifying power management as an extension of your existing Cisco infrastructure. Cisco EnergyWise can be used to enforce enterprise-wide power management policies, gather power metrics into user-friendly dashboards, and enable customers to gain control over their power usage in both the datacenter and building infrastructure. The ePower PDU is the first intelligent PDU to support the latest version of Cisco EnergyWise, and provides power data and control for each outlet through the network. ePower and Cisco EnergyWise enable "green," even faster.

"Cyber Switching’s innovation continues in the ePower platform, providing the best value in the industry," said Tom Schoepf, Senior Product Manager at Cyber Switching. "With the most input/outlet combinations and the most advanced power management features in the industry, ePower meets every datacenter’s needs."

Key Features of ePower include: interactive color LCD touchscreen; patented Cyber Breaker® the Virtual Circuit Breaker™ on each outlet; patented power metering and control technology on each outlet; support for Cisco EnergyWise v2.5 with individual outlet management; IPv4 and IPv6 dual-stack support; two USB ports with support of up to 127 simultaneous peripherals; slimmest PDU with individual outlet metering on the market; and 300+ PDU configurations.
