Cree Expands Zero-Recovery Rectifier Line

August 27, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Cree Inc. (Durham, NC) expanded its zero-recovery rectifier product line with the introduction of a 20A, 600V, SiC Schottky diode in a TO-247 industry-standard package. The new device provides customers with the flexibility of a higher-current device and is claimed to replace two diode packages. In addition, the SiC has a high thermal conductivity that results in a lower operating temperature, eliminating the need for heatsinks.

The new rectifier can be used in power-factor correction, high-frequency power supplies and power conversion in motor control applications. Additional offerings in the product family include 1A, 4A, 6A and 10A in industry-standard TO-220, DPAK and D2PAK packages. The SiC Schottky diodes are claimed to offer faster switching speed, minimizing the switching loss associated with the diode, which results in three- to seven-percent reduction in power consumption.
