Cortech Systems Develops CSS300 Series of Switchers

June 04, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Cortech Systems (Simi Valley, CA) has developed the CSS300 family of single-, dual-, triple- and quad-output open-frame switchers. Two or more of these power supplies can be paralleled for n+1 redundant operation. A single-wire current-sharing scheme ensures that all supplies contribute equally. Outputs 1 and 2 include a remote-sensing feature that regulates a constant voltage at the load, rather than at the power supply output terminals. The product measures 8.5” x 4.75” x 1.5”. Fully enclosed versions with fans are available.

Other features of the CSS300 Series include an optional, isolated 5V auxiliary output rated at 0.5A for keep-alive circuits, and which remains on when the main outputs have been turned off with an external inhibit command. Another option is isolated outputs V3 and V4. The CSS300 also includes a power fail/power good TTL signal. It is internally protected from overload, over-voltage and excessive temperature. The series is claimed to achieve 75-percent typical efficiency. It operates from 0 to 50 degrees C without derating.

The CSS300 Series features input power-factor correction that reduces input line harmonics below EN61000-3-2, making it suitable for European sales. The product meets FCC Class B and EN55022 Level B line-conducted noise requirements, and features 85Vac to 264Vac universal input for worldwide operation. The CSS300 is approved to UL1950 and EN60950 international safety standards and carries the CE mark.

Standard output voltages for the CSS300 Series include most popular fixed voltages from 1.8Vdc to 48Vdc. Since the CSS300 is part of Cortech’s versatility series, the outputs can be configured with custom output voltages while retaining full safety agency approvals.

Modified sample products are available in five to six weeks and production products are available in six to eight weeks. Pricing is $189 per 100 units for CSS single-, dual- and triple-outputs, and $199 per 100 units for quad-output versions. Most models are available from stock.
