Oryx Technology Corp. (Fremont, CA) announced that Cooper Bussman, a licensee of Oryx's SurgX technology, has authorized their Taiwan contract manufacturing partner to begin volume production of SurgX surface-mount components. Initial quantities will be 5 million units/month. Cooper Bussman, in conjunction with Oryx, developed a low cost manufacturing process capable of high-volume production, in excess of 10 million units a month. Cooper Bussman will introduce a new package-the 0805-which is approximately 45 percent smaller than the original 1206 package, and priced at less than 50 percent of the cost of the current SurgX product. The company has already sent samples of the new SurgX component to major OEMs in the computer, telecommunications, mobile communications and instrumentation markets. Oryx Technology also reported a net loss for the fourth quarter ended February 28, 1999, or $0.2 million, or $0.02 per share, on revenues of $1.0 million, compared to a net loss from continuing operations for the fiscal fourth quarter of 1998 of $0.9 million, or $0.07 cents per share, on revenues of $3.0 million.
