PEIC Consortium Launches Online Career Portal at APEC 2019

March 17, 2019 by Scott McMahan

The Power Electronics Industry Collaborative (PEIC) will launch a newly developed online career portal at the 2019 Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC) in Anaheim California, from March 17 - 21 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

PEIC is an industry consortium whose members include power electronics OEMs, research organizations, educational institutions, and other industry stakeholders. The consortium's goal is to cultivate an ever more diverse, skilled, and innovative workforce.

The consortium designed the new Power Electronics Industry Career Portal to connect student interns and entry-level workers with prospective employers. A unique alternative to the conventional job posting sites, the PEIC career portal enables applicants to produce blind profiles to be matched against employment opportunities.

PEIC's Diversity & Inclusion Working Group developed a unique process that allows employers to see applicant profiles specifically geared toward the power electronics industry. The process includes online forms for work history, experience, and qualifications, as well as a specially developed questionnaire that is intended to give employers insights into an applicant's personality and career goals.

The Diversity & Inclusion Working Group was established to devise programs for educating and encouraging a new generation of highly skilled workers in power electronics, including women and under-represented minorities.

"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce PEIC's new career portal at APEC, and encourage attending universities and companies with internship programs to utilize this complimentary service, and consider joining us in our efforts to create a more diverse, skilled, and innovative workforce," said Nanci Vogtli, president of PEIC. "Membership provides opportunities for students and recent graduates to participate in PEIC's working groups to enhance their leadership and collaboration skills which are so essential in today's workplace."

"As a young engineer, the opportunities to speak at PEIC sponsored special sessions at industry conferences and participate in the Diversity & Inclusion Working Group have provided me with valuable networking and learning experiences," said Minyu Cai, power electronics engineer at PEIC member company, Cummins, Inc. "As a PEIC member, Cummins sees real value in launching this new career portal to promote a more diversified workforce, which resonates with one of our core values - diversity and inclusion."
