Conductive Polymer Aluminum Solid Electrolytic Capacitors with 2000-Hour Life at 150℃

Nichicon Corporation introduced the PCZ series of chip-type conductive polymer, aluminum solid electrolytic capacitors, which have an operating temperature of 150℃ and feature a life expectancy of 2,000 hours.

The PCZ series enhances the heat resistance technology used in the company’s PCH series that previously boasted the highest guaranteed temperature of 135℃ before the introduction of the PCZ series of capacitors.

The shift to electric vehicles and the spread of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) has increased the demand for highly reliable capacitors that operate at high temperatures. Specifically, this need for high-temperature operation capacitors has been boosted with the installation of control boards, such as electronic control units (ECUs), in the engine compartment.

Conductive polymer aluminum solid electrolytic capacitors have lower ESR and have higher allowable ripple current compared with aluminum electrolytic capacitors, but they were previously limited in their usable temperature range.

The advancements that lead to the development of the PCZ series include the optimization of the components of the current PCH series, including conductive polymers, improvement of the self-healing features of aluminum oxide films, and refinement of the sealing technology.

Combined, these upgrades have helped the capacitors achieve a guaranteed operation for 2,000 hours at 150℃, while sustaining the features of conductive polymer aluminum solid electrolytic capacitors including low ESR and high allowable ripple current.

The rated voltage range is 25Vdc to 35Vdc, the rated capacitance range is 100µF to 330µF, and the dimensions of the product lineup range from φ8 x 10L to φ10L x 12.7L.
