Compaq Computer Unveils the New UPS R3000 XR

September 14, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Compaq Computer Corp. (Houston, TX) recently unveiled the Compaq UPS R3000 XR, which they claim to be the power industry's smallest and most power-efficient 3,000VA rack-mount UPS. Designed for customers who want to provide power protection in space-constrained rack-enterprise environments, the 3,000VA UPS delivers 2,700W and includes both hot-swap batteries and hot-swap electronics. The entire UPS measures 2U (3.5").

With an electronic design innovation using DSPs, the Compaq UPS R3000 XR provides voltage regulation without using the battery. Option cards are also available for SNMP, networking, multi-server and operating system control, and for power scalability. Additional high-availability features for easy UPS service without powering down protected equipment include field flash-upgradeable firmware, a battery-extended runtime module and an automatic bypass mode.

The Compaq UPS R3000 XR ships with a free copy of the new Compaq Power-Management Software. Working in conjunction with the Compaq UPS R3000 XR, the Compaq Power-Management Software allows users to configure scheduled startups and orderly shutdowns of the protected equipment. Using the Compaq Power-Management Software, receptacles on the back of the Compaq UPS R3000 XR can be grouped into load segments to allow network managers to individually tailor the power configuration for each computer device plugged into the load segments.

Compaq Power-Management Software supports most operating systems. The Compaq UPS R3000 XR is currently available in US and worldwide configurations. Pricing varies.
