Common-Mode Chokes for Harsh Environments Handle 4A

May 14, 2019 by Scott McMahan

Exxelia introduced the TCM series of inductors. The company designed and qualified the series to be compatible with aerospace and other high-reliability applications and says that the TCM series is a cost-effective inductor solution for harsh environments. Exxelia created the series to be an easy commercial (COTS) solution for aerospace, defense, and other high-reliability applications.

Typical applications for the inductors include EMI filtering as well as noise attenuation on signal lines and SMPS within the aerospace, defense, transportation, renewable energy, and industrial sectors.

The TCM series comes in a through-hole package for horizontal or vertical mounting. TCM chokes are offered with inductances from 0.7mH to 47mH under-rated currents from 0.3A to 4.0A. Each unit is thoroughly tested with a dielectric withstanding strength of 1,500Vac.

Excellent thermal properties allow the series to operate from -55°C to +125°C. High mechanical performance of the component materials (all meeting to UL94 V0 rating) makes TCM a suitable for aviation, defense, and transportation industries.

The company says that the TCM series of common-mode chokes is designed into circuit boards of a large number of power electronic devices used for a wide range of applications including switch-mode power supplies and converters, inverters, battery management systems, and chargers. Exxelia's TCM series fully complies with the requirements of RoHS and REACH.
