Chroma ATE Launches 61600 Programmable AC Source

March 26, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Chroma ATE (Irvine, CA) introduced the 61600 Programmable AC Source, a new ac and ac+dc source electronics testing series of 12 models ranging from 500VA to 18,000VA. The 61600 is an entry-level solution for low-distortion an, dc, or ac+dc power for real-world simulation of power line conditions. The series is suitable for power supply, avionics, military equipment, ballasts, UPS and power component testing.

The 61600 Series features distortion of 0.3 percent. Chroma claims that it delivers the highest peak current capability in its price range. In addition, the 16-bit measurement resolution delivers DVM-type accuracy for measurement of line voltage, current, peak-current and inrush current.

With ac, dc or ac+dc output modes, the 61600 Series can be used to simulate the input power requirement of an electronic device or subsystem. The ac output voltage is programmed from 0 to 150Vac or 0 to 400Vac, 15 to 1,000Hz. The output has a programmable turn-on phase angle that allows testing of inrush current while the stable, non-distorted, non-clipped 6X current crest factor allows for repeatable test results.

The dc output mode provides 0 to 212Vdc or 0 to 424Vdc source as well as the ability to create complex ac+dc waveforms. In addition, an optional analog input turns the 61600 Series into a low-frequency power amplifier for additional line simulations.

Built for lab or production floor use, the 61600 has front panel controls. Protection circuits and limiting routines offer over-power, over-current, over-voltage and over-temperature protection. Prices for the 61600 Series start at $2,495 for a 500VA, single-phase unit. Delivery is stock to four weeks ARO. All units have a full one-year warranty.
