China to Help Pakistan Produce Solar Energy

November 28, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

China announced that it will provide technical assistance to the country of Pakistan in producing electricity through solar energy, said an official of the Jiangsu Solar Energy Resources Institute. "We can help Pakistan manufacture solar collector tubes that could be used to providing cheap electricity," said the official. "We will also transfer technology to Pakistan for the development of renewable energy."

A delegation of technical experts have already visited Pakistan to undertake joint ventures to develop tubes and other methods of producing thermal solar energy. Pakistan and China have a bright cooperation prospect under the Memorandum of Understanding, signed by both countries last year, which aimed to produce electricity through renewable energy resources. Some experimental biogas projects had been set up in Islamabad and Abbottabad.
