Ceramic Disc Capacitors feature Pulse Strength to 10 kV

June 28, 2015 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has extended its VY1 series of ac-line-rated ceramic disc safety capacitors with new devices offering reduced sizes and higher pulse strength up to 10 kV. With body diameters down to 7.5 mm, devices in the Vishay BC components VY1 Compact series are designed to save space while providing higher reliability for Class X1 (760 Vac) and Y1 (500 Vac) applications in accordance with IEC 60384-14.3, third edition.

Featuring Y5U ceramic dielectrics, the VY1 Compact series is optimized for RFI and ac line filtering applications in power supplies, power and smart meters, white goods, and consumer electronics. The capacitors offer a capacitance range from 470 pF to 4700 pF — with tolerances of ± 20% — over a temperature range of -40 to +125 degrees C.

The devices released today consist of a copper-plated ceramic disc with tinned copper-clad steel connection leads offering 0.6 mm diameters. VY1 Compact series capacitors are available with vertical (inline) kinked leads or straight leads with spacing of 10 mm or 12.5 mm. RoHS-compliant and halogen-free, the devices' encapsulation is made of flame-resistant epoxy resin in accordance with UL 94 V-0.

Samples and sample kits of the VY1 Compact series are available now. Production quantities are available now, with lead times of eight to 10 weeks for larger orders. Pricing varies by capacitance value and quantity ordered.
