January 22, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

C&D Technologies Inc. (Tucson, AZ) has expanded its family of magnetic products for power applications with a series of space-saving, general-purpose, pulse transformers offering inductance values to 10mH and isolation ratings of 1kVrms. Featuring five different winding configurations, the 786 Series transformers are available in surface-mount and through-hole versions, and are suitable for applications such as line coupling, matching and isolation. The devices can also be used in small, isolated power supplies and as common-mode chokes in filtering applications.

The new transformers offer minimum primary inductance values of between 100µH and 10mH, and employ a toroidal construction. Winding configuration options are 1:1, 1:1:1, 2:1, 1CT:1 and 1CT:1CT, while dc resistance values range from 0.17O to 1.34O. Fully encapsulated using UL 94V-0 materials, the new transformers have dimensions of 9.52mm x 8.89mm x 6.35mm for DIP package options and 12.70mm x 8.89mm x 6.35mm in the case of the surface-mount parts. Operating temperature for

the 786 Series is specified as 0°C to 70°C.

Pricing for transformers in the 786 Series is under $0.90 per device in OEM quantities.
