C&D Technologies Debuts VSX75MD35 DC/DC Converter

June 25, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

C&D Technologies Inc. (Tucson, AZ) announced its new VSX75MD35 75W, dual-output, isolated dc/dc converter, which is housed in a compact, quarter-brick package. Suitable for distributed power architectures and telecommunications applications, the VSX75MD35 has a wide 36Vdc to 75Vdc input-voltage range and offers 3.3Vdc and 5.0Vdc outputs.

The VSX75MD35 employs the company's proprietary V Series high-density technology to achieve a 90-percent efficiency rating, minimizing the need for heatsinking. A low-output ripple reduces external filtering requirements. Integrated functionality helps to further reduce external component count, and the device includes non-latching protection against input under-voltage, input over-voltage, and output over-voltage and over-temperature. The converter also features continuous short-circuit protection, input filtering and a remote on/off capability. The converter allows output voltages to be trimmed by up to 10 percent while output-voltage tracking takes place at turn-on and turn-off under all line-and-load conditions. For maximum design flexibility, power can be traded between the dual outputs as required.

The VSX75MD35 is approved to UL/CUL 1950 and EN60950, and has a rated isolation between an input and output of 1,500Vdc. The base-plate operating temperature is from -40 to +100 degrees C. The VSX75MD35 dc/dc converters are priced at $99 in OEM quantities.
