C&D Technologies Adds VSX50MD23 DC/DC Converter

C&D Technologies Inc. (Raleigh, NC) has expanded its family of high-density, quarter-brick, dc/dc converters with a highly integrated, 50W, dual-output device that will allow designers to reduce application component count and minimize noise. The new VSX50MD23 is an isolated dc/dc converter that is suitable for distributed power architectures and telecommunications requirements.

The VSX50MD23 employs the company’s proprietary V Series high-density technology to achieve an 89-percent efficiency rating, which minimizes the need for heatsinking while a low-output ripple reduces the need for additional filtering. The component count can be further reduced as a result of integrated features that include remote on/off with positive or negative logic options; output-voltage trim; output-current limit; input filtering; and built-in, non-latching protection against under-voltage, over-voltage and short circuits. The VSX50MD23 has a wide 36V to 75V input range for design flexibility and offers 3.3V and 5.0V outputs with maximum output noise voltages of 60mV and 80mV, respectively. Isolation between input and outputs is rated at 1,500Vdc, and power can be traded between the dual outputs as required. Output-voltage tracking takes place at turn-on and turn-off under all line and load conditions.

The new converter is approved to UL/cUL 1950 and EN60950 and can operate with a baseplate temperature of between -40 and +100 degrees C. Available now, pricing for the VSX50MD23 is $95 in OEM quantities.
