CARB Standardizes EV Charging Equipment

July 15, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

The California Air Resources Board (CARB, Sacramento, CA) has amended its Zero Emission Vehicle rule by standardizing EV charging equipment. Conductive charging will be the standard for EVs in California.

"The move to standardize is an essential step in the growth of EV technology and is needed to provide certainty to the public and manufacturers," said CARB Chairman Alan Lloyd. "Also, the board felt that because of the technology's lower costs and increased durability, conductive chargers offered the best option for the future."
