California Micro Intros CM3018 LDO Regulators

March 22, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

California Micro Devices Corp. (Milpitas, CA) announced its CM3018 family of 150 mA CMOS regulators in a compact chip-scale package, form factor. The five-bump, CM3018 low dropout (LDO) regulator requires 82 percent less board space than a five-lead, SOT23 version and 50 percent less space than a SC70 version, making it suitable for space-constrained applications such as wireless handsets, MP3 players and digital still cameras.

The device features a quiescent operating current of 100 µA that is 30 percent lower than competing solutions. With 10 different (1.5 V to 3.3 V) fixed-output voltages, the CM3018 can be implemented in a variety of power management in battery-operated applications. The device has a clean output voltage with the output noise less than or equal to 35 µVRMS over a frequency range of 300 Hz to 100 kHz. With a 10 nf external bypass capacitor, the power supply ripple rejection is 60 dB at 1 kHz.

The CM3018 LDO devices in chip-scale packaging are currently sampling and are priced at $0.47 each in 1,000 units. Volume production is scheduled for April 2004.
