California Instruments Intros MX Series Power Supplies

February 25, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

California Instruments (San Diego, CA) announced the new MX Series of ac/dc power supplies that offer high levels of ac and dc power in a compact floor-standing cabinet. Available in power levels starting at 45kVA, the MX Series offers transient generation, arbitrary waveform generation, standard measurements, harmonic analysis and waveform acquisition.

The MX Series uses a digital signal-processor-based arbitrary waveform generator and power analyzer, which eliminates the need for additional equipment to create an complete ac and dc power test system. Using a large graphical LCD display, the advanced measurement and analysis capabilities can be accessed directly from the front panel without the need for remote control. Configuration options include both single- and multiple-unit systems for a wide range of power levels. The MX45-3Pi offers both single- and three-phase output capability at a power level of 45kVA. Multiple MX45 chassis can be combined to provide higher power levels for three-phase applications.

The extended output frequency range of 16Hz to 819Hz makes the MX Series suitable for both commercial and avionics applications. Dual-voltage ranges (3Pi models or -R option) provide a maximum output current at 80 percent of the voltage range and constant power from 80 to 100 percent of the voltage range. The built-in measurement and analysis functions eliminate the need for additional test equipment.
