Cadence Design Systems Teams with Analog Devices

March 07, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Cadence Design Systems (San Jose, CA) and Analog Devices Inc. (Norwood, MA) have formed a strategic alliance to assist the development of next-generation embedded systems and products that utilize DSP technology. Under the agreement, Analog Devices will seek to bring to Cadence's design services new customer opportunities involving DSP technology, and Cadence will endeavor to utilize Analog Devices' family of embedded DSP motor-control devices in providing design services to these customers.

The alliance will initially target applications of DSP technology in the industrial and consumer sectors in support of Cadence's industrial electronics design services. The two companies have agreed to jointly pursue and perform consulting and design services projects for manufacturers of packaging machines, industrial equipment, semiconductor manufacturing equipment and automation systems.

"DSP technology has the capability to enable a large number of innovative new products, smart instrumentation for closed-loop process control, and very accurate servo-motion control loops for positioning, velocity and torque-control applications," said Al Strelzoff, vice president and general manager with Cadence.

"Today's announcement underscores the need and the growing market acceptance for advanced real-time, DSP-based, digital-control solutions," added Phil Davies, director of Analog Devices Embedded Control Systems Group.
