BTCPower Unveils S15 Series of DC/DC Converters

March 15, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Broadband TelCom Power Inc. (BTCPower, Santa Ana, CA) unveiled a new family of synchronously rectified, high-efficiency dc/dc converters. The company claims that the new BTCPower 15W S15 Series has an efficiency rating of more than 90 percent and does not require airflow or a heatsink.

Including 10 different models suitable for Internet infrastructures, telecommunications, mobile telecommunications and distributed power markets, the S15 Series offers three input voltage ranges of 9V to 18V; 18V to 36V, with 24Vdc nominal; and 36V to 72V, with 48Vdc nominal. Output voltages are 2.5, 3.3, 5, or 12V. All models feature pi filters, input under-voltage lockout, output current limiting and short-circuit protection. The S15 converters have a profile of 0.35 inches, with a power density up to 28.5W per inch. They have an MTBF of 850,000 hours at 50 degrees C and weigh 28g.

“There is no doubt that our new series will be popular for many applications such as telecom and Internet hardware that need to operate at 60 degrees C ambient temperature in an enclosed space with no air flow while requiring very low profile for small pitch between cards," commented James Lau, president of the company. “With the S15, we have effectively created a new standard."
