Broadband TelCom Power Introduces the MiniPack Brick Series of DC/DC Converters

March 13, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Broadband TelCom Power Inc. (BTCPower, Costa Mesa, CA) introduced the MiniPack Brick Series of dc/dc converters with a 185A current capacity. Featuring a 960W brick, the MiniPack Brick is suitable for use in telecom, datacom and Internet infrastructure, as well as networking arenas for smaller power supplies with high current and lower voltage requirements.

The new MiniPack Brick is the ‘extended power' version of BTCPower's 200W and 400W IMT Series of dc/dc converters. Like the IMT Series, the new MiniPack Brick uses the company's patented Flat Transformer Technology, which uses multiple cores with single windings. The device has eight dual-diodes with each diode carrying, on average, 12A for a 185A, 5Vdc output converter.

The MiniPack Brick measures 2.5" x 0.5" x 6.5", not including output bus bars. With the output bus bars, the length extends to 8" or 9", depending on the types of bus bars used.

The MiniPack is also available mounted on a card cage with input filters attached. The card cage dimensions are 13.4" x 2.7" x 0.625", including the mounting brackets.

Available output levels range from 3V to 24V, with power levels of 800W to 1kW. All heat-generating devices in the MiniPak are distributed and bonded to an aluminum base plate. The converters exceed 488,000 hours in MTBF-based on Mil Std 217 E specifications. They are also UL-, CSA-, TUV- and CE-approved.
