BMW Shows Hydrogen-Powered Car in Los Angeles

July 12, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Officials from BMW (Germany) traveled to Los Angeles, CA, to show off the fleet of 750hL sedans that run on clean-burning hydrogen. The 10 cars have been shown in United Arab Emirates, Europe, Japan and the US to demonstrate the benefits of hydrogen as a fuel source.

The 750hL features a 12-cylinder engine and has a top speed of 141mph. The car can travel about 200m on a pressurized tank of liquid hydrogen. Wide-scale commercial production of the car is thought to be a decade or more away, though BMW hopes to introduce a hydrogen-powered 7-Series model before then.
