BIAS Power Technology Unveils Modular Standby Power Supply

September 05, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

BIAS Power Technology Inc. (Palatine, IL) unveiled a new, modular 0.5W standby power supply. BIAS’s new power supply is suitable for consumer and commercial product manufacturers to reduce standby power consumption and lower product costs. BIAS claims that the unit is low-cost, with high efficiency and small size, making it a possible drop-in replacement for conventional linear transformer or capacitor-coupled supplies. The offline ac/dc switching power converter operates from 85Vac to 265Vac input and provides 500mW of isolated dc power at the output.

The new BIAS power supply plugs directly into a circuit board as a standard leaded component. It can be used as a standby or bias power supply, but can also function as a small stand-alone power supply. The unit uses line-synchronous switching technology to eliminate conducted EMI. BIAS claims that efficiency is maintained at greater than 50 percent.
