BI Technologies Unveils Model 7700 Series Power Modules

April 04, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

BI Technologies (Fullerton, CA) has unveiled the Model 7700 Series of low-profile power modules with power-handling capabilities of up to 4,000W. These hybrid modules contain all the power components needed to perform boost-type power factor protection in a switching power supply. They include a bridge rectifier with SCRs, an ultrafast boost diode, a power MOSFET and an NTC thermistor.

The Model 7700 Series power modules have an operating temperature range from -40 to 125 degrees C. They are available in two standard configurations. The Model 7700B modules are for power supplies from 1,500W to 3,000W, and they contain a 600V, 25A rectifier and a 500V, 0.1 ohm MOSFET. The Model 7700-2A modules are designed for power supplies from 2,000W to 4,000W. These contain a 600V, 25A rectifier and a 500V, 0.0675 ohm MOSFET. Custom power modules are also available for specific applications, including motor drives, servo amplifiers, solenoid drivers, solid state relays and three-phase rectifier bridges.

“With two standard configurations covering power ratings from 1,500W to 4,000W and line voltages up to 300Vrms, the 7700 Series provides engineers with a flexible modular approach to power factor correction," stated Brian Kane, director of product develop, microcircuits and modules. “This compact power module makes optimum use of the available current to maximize overall efficiency, maintains a minimum footprint to conserve boardspace and improves thermal management so the need for a heatsink is reduced."

Typical pricing for the Model 7700 Series power factor correction modules starts at $47.70 each in quantities of 10,000, with lead times from two to four weeks ARO.
