BI Technologies Premiers 830 Series DC/DC Switching Power Supply Module

September 04, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Using advanced hybrid technology and manufacturing techniques, component manufacturer BI Technologies (Fullerton, CA) has introduced the new 830 Series, a compact 6W, universal input, single output dc/dc switching power supply module. The 830 Series module is an isolated dc/dc converter that accepts an input range of 110Vdc to 375Vdc, allowing it to operate from any rectified 80Vac to 265Vac line.

Standard output voltages for the 830 Series range from 5Vdc to 18Vdc. Custom voltages between 3.5V and 24V are available for OEM applications. The power modules use an advanced switching circuit that operates at 500kHz, and use a ceramic substrate, allowing the module to operate without an external heatsink. The ceramic substrate incorporates screened resistors, providing drift-free operation over the life of the product.

"The 830 Series' small package size, universal input and wide choice of output voltages make it flexible enough to suit a wide range of customer applications," said Guido Galliolo, business manager of micro-circuits and modules at BI Technologies. "They cost just a few pennies more than the discrete components that an OEM would purchase separately to build its own supply. That is a very small price to pay for a module that provides such a high efficiency rating, comes fully tested and guaranteed, and is available in a package that is smaller than anything the OEM could design in-house."

The 830 Series module can be used as a stand-alone power supply for small electronics and microprocessor-controlled appliances as a replacement for bulky wall-mount transformers used with a large array of portable electronics. The modules are supplied in either vertical or horizontal SIP packaging for through-hole mounting, and a low-profile surface-mount configuration. Pricing for the 830 Series modules is under $6 each for volume OEM applications.
