Bekaert ECD Solar Systems Receives Order for 100kW

United Solar Systems Corp. (Troy, MI) a joint venture between Energy Conversion Devices Inc. (Troy, MI) and N.V. Bekaert S.A. (Belgium), announced that Bekaert ECD Solar Systems LLC, its joint venture with Bekaert, has received an order for 100kW of the Uni-Solar building-integrated photovoltaic roofing products from Sacramento Municipal Utilities District (SMUD, Sacrament, CA). The order is for Bekaert ECD's roofing laminate that will be bonded to metal roofing pans in the field. The product will be installed on metal roofs and parking shades throughout the Sacramento area. Shipping should be completed by the end of August 2001.

"We find many opportunities for the lightweight, aesthetically pleasing and easy-to-install Uni-Solar products in our terrirtory," said Dave Collier, principal electrical engineer for SMUD.

Chairman and CEO of United Solar, and President and CEO of ECD Stanford Ovshinsky commented, "This project will showcase the versatility of our building-integrated photovoltaic products to address the California energy crisis, and brings us one step closer to turning all roofs into clean power generators."
