Battery Engineering Inc. (Canton, MA) introduced a line of custom-engineered high-voltage, high-energy density lithium-thionyl chloride batteries. The batteries are constructed from 304L stainless steel with reinforced hermetic glass-to-metal seals and can be made in a variety of custom configurations. The cells feature capacities from 0.08 to 135Ah with operating voltages from 3.0-3.6V at -40 to +180 degrees C, and energy densities up to 600Wh/kg. The shock-resistant cells are capable of withstanding constant vibration and up to 20,000 Gs shock, according to Battery Engineering. Retaining up to 80 percent of their original capacity after 10 years, the batteries are considered ideal for remote sensing devices, black box and backup memory systems, and other demanding applications. The cells can be made in sizes from 0.275" diameter up to a #6 cell with various termination and connector options.
