January 07, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

AVX Corp.’s (Myrtle Beach, SC) Connector Division announced the availability of its new vertical female connectors for backplane applications. The 8072 Series connectors are in compliance with International Standard IEC 61076-4-101 and eliminate the possibility of bent pins when used in place of male connectors in backplane applications.

AVX’s vertical female connectors are available in Type A and B versions, with or without side shields. Type A connectors are available in a 110-pin size, while Type B connectors come in 95-pin, 110-pin and 125-pin sizes. Both types mate with all AVX 8072 right-angle male connectors and are fully interchangeable with all 2mm hard metric connectors. The 8072 Series connectors provide 2mm contact spacing, a current rating up to 1A per contact and voltage ratings up to 250V.

Made with phosphor-bronze contacts and polyester shrouds, the connectors have an operating temperature of -55 to +125 degrees C. Applications include telecommunications switching systems, industrial computers, factory automation equipment and computer test systems.

Pricing for the 8072 Series vertical female connectors is approximately $0.06 per pin in quantities of 1,000, with lead times from stock to six weeks, and samples are now available.
