Avago Technologies Announces 2.5A Automotive Gate Drive Optocoupler

January 28, 2010 by Jeff Shepard

Avago Technologies announced a new compact extended temperature automotive grade optocoupler for use in hybrid electronic vehicles. Avago’s ACPL-36JV 2.5A optocoupler incorporates an integrated desaturation detection and fault status feedback system while offering superior performance over a wide operating temperature range from -40 to +105°C. The ACPL-36JV is well suited for use with isolated IGBT/power MOSFET gate drives, industrial inverters, ac and brushless dc motor drives, and uninterruptable power supplies.

Avago’s ACPL-36JV, which is part of its R(2)Coupler™ family, provides reinforced insulation and reliability that delivers safe signal isolation which is critical in automotive and high temperature industrial applications. The low-power ACPL-36JV optocoupler has been designed with under voltage lock-out (UVLO) protection, high common mode rejection (CMR) performance and high speed response to improve efficiency.

Additionally, the ACPL-36JV has been qualified to automotive AEC-Q100 Grade 2 semiconductor requirements for use in automotive applications.

The ACPL-36JV optocoupler is available in a 16-lead small outline (SO-16) surface mount package and is compliant to industrial safety standards IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-5, UL 1577 and CSA.

Features and benefits of the ACPL-36JV include: drives IGBTs up to IC = 150 A, VCE = 1200V; optically isolated, FAULT status feedback; input CMOS/TTL compatible; 500ns max. switching speed; soft IGBT turn-off; 15kV/us minimum CMR at VCM = 1500V; and qualified to AEC-Q100 Grade 2 test guidelines.

Avago’s ACPL-36JV automotive 2.5A optocouplers are priced at $3.61 in 10,000 piece quantities.
