Ault Intros New Family of DC/DC Converters

November 04, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Ault Inc. (Minneapolis, MN) announced the introduction of high-efficiency half-brick and quarter-brick dc/dc converters. Ault is private-labeling the products through an agreement with MagneTek Inc. (Nashville, TN).

“This is a strategic product expansion for us,” stated Greg Harris, Ault’s vice president, business development. “We are a leading supplier to OEMs when they require external power. With the addition of dc/dc converters, we will now assist design engineers at the board level, which broadens the applications and the needs we fulfill for OEMs in all of the data communications and telecommunications market segments.”

Ault’s family of high-efficiency converters includes single- and dual-output quarter bricks as well as single-output half-bricks. The quarter bricks range from 23W to 100W of power in 15A, 20A and 25A. All of the models are available in a 48V input with 5V, 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V and 1.5V. The three quarter-brick dual models range from 30W to 60W of power with 12A and 18A of current. The half-brick single outputs range from 60W to 200W of power in 30A, 40A, 50A, 60A and 75A. All of the models are available in a 48V input with 5V, 3.3V, 2.5V, 1.8V and 1.5V.

The efficiency ranges from 89 to 91 percent, depending on the particular model of quarter brick or half brick. These models are also low-profile (0.40in), with an industry-standard footprint and pinout, and feature fixed-frequency, over-current and over-temperature protection, and remote sense. The operating temperature is -40 to +100 degrees C. All of the models feature UL/CSA 60950, IEC60950 and ENC60950 safety agency approvals (UL pending).
