AstroPower to Power Habitat-for-Humanity Home

July 25, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

AstroPower Inc. (Newark, DE) announced that it will power a Habitat-for-Humanity home through the donation of a solar-electric power system. Currently under construction in Westminster, CO, the home is sponsored by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL, Golden, CO) and the US Department of Energy (DOE, Washington, DC).

The NREL- and DEO-sponsored home will incorporate an AstroPower 1.6kW SunLine solar-electric power system featuring AstroPower's APex solar cells. The SunLine system generates solar-electric power and delivers it through the home's existing circuits. When the system produces more electricity than the home requires, excess electricity is sent back to the utility grid.
