Artesyn Technologies Introduces the NXA66 Series of Non-Isolated DC/DC Converters

February 27, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Artesyn Technologies Inc. (Boca Raton, FL) recently introduced the NXA66 Series of 66W, non-isolated, dc/dc converters. This series is designed to provide point-of-load power conversion and fast transient response in a vertically mounted, space-efficient package.

According to Artesyn, the NXA66 is available with a 12V input and a selectable 3.3V or 2.5V output. The device has a footprint of 2.75" x 0.588" and uses gold-plated edge tabs for a low-impedance interconnect scheme designed to accommodate future expansion. The NXA66 is designed to handle a transient from zero to full-load (30A/uS) and recover in less than 100uS. The company claims the NXA66 achieves 86 percent efficiency for a 3.3V output, and can be used in a stand-alone configuration, or paralleled as a building block to achieve higher output currents. A democratic current-sharing scheme is designed to eliminate the need for master/slave combinations.

The NXA66 also offers over-voltage protection with an on-board fuse, double-ended differential-remote sending and short-circuit protection. The NXA66 has international safety approval to EN60950 and cUL1950, and provides 20A of output current at 40 degrees C with 300LMF of airflow.

According to Artesyn, simulations of the NXA66 can be run in Artesyn's Virtual PowerLab using a web browser. The company's web-based simulation tool, found in the PowerLab, allows designers to select a virtual NXA66, configure it to their applications, run a simulation, and then view voltage and current waveforms at any point in their applications.

In quantities of 5,000, pricing for the NXA66 is $24 each and can be delivered from stock with 10-week lead times for production orders.
