Artesyn Technologies Inc. (Boca Raton, FL) recently announced that it has formed a new business unit, the Artesyn Global Wireless Division. The new division will develop and market power supplies and power subsystems for wireless communications systems manufacturers. Josef J. Matz, managing director of Artesyn's European Commercial Division, has been named as the group's senior executive.

"Artesyn already has the resources and reference accounts to assume a leadership role in the wireless communications market," said Joseph M. O'Donnell, Artesyn's president and CEO. "We created the Global Wireless Division to better serve our customers, aligning our practices with their business models. The formation of this division allows Artesyn to consolidate and focus our technical and sales resources on the high-growth wireless communications market. We estimate the current power purchases in this sector to be over $1.5 billion annually."

"I am looking forward to leveraging Artesyn's experience and reputation in the wireless arena," said Josef Matz. "This new group will enable us to accommodate the special requirements of the wireless market space, the end result being superior products and services for our customers."

The Global Wireless Division will be headquartered in Vienna, Austria.
