Artesyn Intros NLP250 Series AC-DC Power Supplies

July 28, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Artesyn Technologies Inc. (Boca Raton, FL), a manufacturer of power conversion and embedded board solutions for infrastructure applications in telecommunications systems, introduced its new NLP250 Series of compact 250 W ac-dc power supplies that are suitable front-end conversion solutions for systems with distributed power architectures, as well as for portable medical equipment (12 V and 24 V models), information technology equipment, and light industrial system applications.

The NLP250 Series power supplies feature U-channel construction; dimensions of 4 in x 7 in x 1.5 in; a power density of 6.0 W/in³; a wide ambient operating temperature range of 0 °C to 70 °C, maintaining full rated output up to 50 °C; a universal input-voltage range of 85 Vac to 264 Vac at frequencies from 47 Hz to 63 Hz; active power-factor correction that minimizes input harmonic current distortion; a choice of 12 V, 24 V or 48 V outputs to simplify system integration; an auxiliary "always-on" 5 Vdc output for applications that require standby operation; a typical conversion efficiency of 84 percent at full load with a 115 Vac input, and 86 percent with a 230 Vac input; regulation to within ±2% for all line and load conditions; main output channel delivery up to 175 W continuously under free-air convection conditions (rising to 250 W with 200 LFM forced-air cooling); maximum main channel output currents of 21 A, 10.5 A, and 5.25 A, respectively; active current sharing; internal Or-ing diodes fitted to the main output; a high surge-current capability (delivering up to 130 percent of the rated steady-state current for 500 msec); ac power fail and dc OK output signals; a remote on/off input; and over-current, over-voltage, and over-temperature protection.

The NLP250 Series complies with the EN55022-B and FCC part 15 Level B EMC standards. The power supplies carry UL/cUL60950-1 and EN60950-1 VDE safety approvals, and the medical versions are also approved to UL/cUL2601-1 and VDE EN60601-1. Sample quantities of the NLP250 Series, including models with medical approvals, are available for immediate delivery. Standard lead-time for both types is stock to 8 to 12 weeks. Pricing starts at $127.00 for the ITE/industrial models and $140.00 for the medical models, in quantities of 250.
