Arques Technology Offers AQ9102 Integrated Charger

December 28, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Arques Technology (Austin, TX) offered its AQ9102, an integrated charger with a charging profile tailored for single-cell, lithium-ion batteries. The linear charger can be powered from either an ac voltage-source adapter or a USB port, and it will automatically select the correct source. During charging, the charger will actively adapt to the system load changes and re-allocate available current to either the system or the battery, assuring fast charging and a proper charge profile while still permitting full system operation. It provides adjustable system and charging current up to 2.0 A.

The AQ9102 requires no external blocking diodes or current-sense resistors reducing board space and costs. It requires only two external resistors to program the adapter over-current limit and maximum charging current. The AQ9102 provides input adapter over-voltage protection using an external power MOSFET. When the adapter is not present, the AQ9102 draws less than 1 µA of drain current from the battery.

The AQ9102 is packaged in a small MLP-16, with optional green (halogen-free, lead-free) packaging. The AQ9102 is priced at $1.99 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
